Introduction
Welcome to Hammonds Land & Cattle! We are a proud, multigenerational farming family based in the heart of central North Carolina. Our passion lies in locally based and sustainable farming operations.
Our farming model is based on producing superior Angus & Hereford-cross commercial cow/calf and ADCA-registered Irish Dexter breeding stock.
We raise registered Irish Dexter cattle, known for their exceptional milk production and quality pasture-raised beef. Our cattle have been selected for their excellent disposition, conformation, superior meat quality, and milk A2/A2 genetics. Beef and dairy production are equally important to us. All of our Dexter cattle are registered with the American Dexter Cattle Association.
Our commercial cow/calf operation, based in Lumberton, NC, supports the deep farming heritage my father, Ronald G. Hammonds, built. We produced some of the finest calves over the last 50 years. The cow/calf operation prioritizes strong genetics, sustainable grazing, and ethical cattle management to produce healthy, productive, and profitable calves. Our calves are created by crossing Black Angus cows with Hereford bulls. This strategic crossbreeding takes advantage of "hybrid vigor", producing calves that are hardier, faster-growing, and more efficient than purebred cattle. Whether you're looking for replacement heifers, feeder calves, or breeding stock, we've got what you need.
In addition to our cattle, we produce delicious pasture-raised pork. We prefer Berkshire pigs (heritage breed) for their slow growth, quality forest/pasture efficiency, and rich-tasting pork.
Lastly, you can't have cattle, swine, and pastures without good-quality poultry to round it off. We are also in the process of making some big changes with our commercial Perdue boiler houses. More to follow on this topic.
